Meet Oscar
Hi, I’m Oscar and I am the Official Ambassador of Fosters & Ferals.
Let me tell you a little about myself – other than what you can tell by just looking at me (you know that I’m handsome and charming and stuff)!
I had a “ruff” start in life…
When I was around two years old, I don’t know what I did wrong, but my family abandoned me on the cold streets of New Jersey.
Luckily, my savior Erin saw me outside a deli on Thanksgiving 2018, a freezing cold day, while she was at a stop light.
She saw my cute face and had to see if I was ok. After asking the deli owner, she found out that I didn’t belong to him (I was hanging outside the deli hoping someone would give me some food to keep me warm). She purchased a can of food for me and we instantly became friends. I then followed her to her car and jumped in.
Erin contacted Puppy Kitty NY City and they said they would help find me a new home.
But first, I had to have a place to stay overnight and that’s where my friend Janine came in. She let me stay at her place until PKNYC could find me a home. PKNYC then found me not one, not two, but THREE foster homes. You see, the first place had a dog and even though I love humans, dogs are NOT my best friend. So then they found me another place, but this place had another cat, and strangely enough, cats are NOT my best friend either. Turns out I am a bit of a loner.
Who knew?!
So in January 2019, I moved again and this time, the home had no dogs or cats.
At first, I ran and hid under the couch because I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect.
The lady put food and water right near the couch and some toys, but I wouldn’t come out. She just let me be and even though I wouldn’t come out from under the couch, right before she went to bed, she put a treat near the couch, and I reached out my paw and grabbed it because I was starving!
She said then that she knew I was a character – not sure what she meant by that, but I think it was a good thing.
In the middle of the night, the lady got up to check on me and I ran over to her and said hello! After that we became good friends and every day we got closer and closer.
She kept taking pictures of me and posting them on Instagram telling everyone how much fun I was and that whoever got to adopt me was very lucky. She did such a good job making me sound good that in March, I finally got a new home! Turns out she convinced herself how special I was and she decided to keep me!! She told me that I wasn’t going anywhere – that I belonged with her and that this is now my furever home! It was worth the wait because I pretty much have the run of the place now.
Mama even had a real live adoption party for me – with balloons and a cake that looked just like me.
I wore a tuxedo for the event since I was the guest of honor and my human cousins came all the way from Florida to welcome me to the family.
Of course, I met my Gram long before that because she doesn’t live too far away. She tells me how smart I am all the time.
Tell me something I don’t know, Gram!
So even though my life didn’t start out so good, I am now king of the castle (mama even bought me a crown!) and I’m very excited to be the Ambassador of Fosters & Ferals.
Together, mama and I want to help other animals like me find their happily ever afters.
Hope you’ll join us.
